Lady Hornets en route to undefeated district title

I’ve got good news and bad news.
The bad is that Emonni Baker and Shamari Franklin are not likely to return to the lineup this season.
And where was Tashunna Neal? She was missing in action against Sterlington.
The good news is that the Lady Hornets beat Sterlington by the hair of their “chinny, chin chin”.
They had no trouble against Ferriday on the Trojan home court winning 62-47. T’Kira Fuller led the way with 21 points. Micaela Wilson had 16 followed by Tashunna Neal and Mykiya Wilson with 8 each. Jalexius Kelly had 5 and Taleria Cowart and Lakevia Anderson each had 1.
But with Sterlington on their home court it was a horse of a different color in a rare Monday night game. End of the first quarter 8-8; end of the half 16-16. It was 42-39 starting the fourth Hornets ahead. During the third the Hornets enjoyed a 10 point lead only to see it dissipated. And lo and behold the Panthers took a 4 point lead with less than three minutes left to play. And this reporter in whom eternal optimism springs undaunted was beginning to wonder.
But why? These are the Lady Hornets undefeated in district play. Coach Sneed was in charge. She called time-out three times during the last ninety seconds pushing the right buttons. Even so Rayville led only 57-56 with less than a minute to play. When the smoke finally cleared the Lady Hornets were victorious 62-58.
Micaela Wilson led the way with 19 followed by T’Kira Fuller with 14 and Jalexius Kelly with 13. Mykiya Wilson had 6, Ebberly Minnieweather 4 and Lakevia Anderson 2 and no doubt the energy and positive vibes of managers Makayla Hunter and C’Na Duckworth were instrumental in the victory.
Last call for an undefeated championship district season will be Mangham here in Rayville at 6 p.m. Feb. 9.
Next Thursday the first playoff game here in Rayville for the #5 power ranked Lady Hornets.
