Raiders sweep series against Park Place

After a three-game sweep of the Park Place Crusaders this past week, the Riverfield Academy Raiders found themselves in pretty good standings (6-3) going into the last two weeks of the regular season’s district action.

Although the next two weeks consisting of two three-game series will definitely be the most challenging part of their season thus far, the young team is playing well together and seems well poised for the challenge ahead.

In last week’s series, the Raiders sweep of three games was by scores of 4-3, 11-5 and 15-5. Game one was played at Riverfield while games two and three were a double header played at Pearl, Miss.

In game one, Tristan Middleton was the winning pitcher. Middleton struck out eight batters, walked one and allowed one hit. Middleton was relieved by Cayden Martin in the fifth inning and Brier Williamson was brought in in the sixth to close the game.

Base hitters in game one were Garrett Brakefield, Spencer Daniel, Middleton, Martin and Austin Salsbury.

In game two, Martin was the winning pitcher with Middleton being brought in in the fourth inning as relief. At the plate, Brakefield singled twice and doubled once. Salsbury singled and doubled. Both Jackson Shelton and Nick Moore had a double a piece. Bailyn Sorenson singled once while Ty Sheldon singled three times.

In game three, Brier Williamson was the winning pitcher. Williamson was relieved by Jackson Shelton in the fifth inning. Shelton finished the game.

Game three was a pretty close match in innings one through five with the Raiders only having a two-run lead of 6-4 going into the sixth inning. The sixth inning, however, was explosive for the Raiders.

They scored nine runs and had 14 at bats before the Crusaders could finally the third out to shot down their rally.

Big hitters in the game included Brakefield, Middleton, Shelton, Martin, Moore and Skeldon.

This week’s three-game series will be played against the Manchester Mavericks from Yazoo City, Miss.

Game one will be played at Manchester on April 11 and games two and three will be a double header played at Riverfield April 13.
