The Thinner

There was a Scottish tradesman, a painter called Jack, who was very interested in making a pound where he could. So he often would thin down his paint to make it go a wee bit further. As it happened, he got away with this for some time.

Eventually the Presbyterian Church decided to do a big restoration job on of their larger churches. Jack put in a bid and because his price was so competitive, he got the job. And so he set to, with a right good will, erecting the trestles and painting up the planks, and buying the paint and yes, I’m sorry to say, thinning it down with turpentine.

Well, Jack was up on the scaffolding, painting away, the job nearly done, when suddenly there was a horrendous clap of thunder. The sky opened up and the rain poured down, washing the thin paint from all over the church and knocking Jack off the scaffold to land on the lawn. Now, Jack was no fool. He knew this was a judgement from the Almighty, so he fell on his knees and cried, “Oh, God! Forgive me! What should I do?”

From the thunder, a mighty Voice spoke, “Repaint you thinner, and go and thin no more!”

I had a rare but most welcomed visitor on Wednesday. My “little” -- well he used to be -- Shane Hough was here with his dad, James Earl and stopped in to see me. Same sweet “kid” Ha!

Jeanne Thompson and Lisa Dixon traveled out to Canton, Texas for a day of browsing and bringing and buying last weekend.

Ben and Emily Thompson, Ahndi, Cooper and Catten spent the weekend in Houston attending a business meeting for Emily.

Barbara McCormick carried Carter and Aiden to Kenner and Marksville while they were on spring break. They did enjoy the inside pool at the hotels.

Kelsie and Lauren Traveled out to Dallas where they enjoyed the Final Four ball games.

Enjoyed seeing interesting sights on Saturday while waiting for the final on Sunday night. Yes, Kelsies’s pick won.

Stacy McCowin Cordell, her girls, Caitey and Addie Clair, and friend Will were here on Saturday. They were going to the Safari Park.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and friends of Wendell Robbins, Richard Collins, Emma Massey Wood, Peggy Reed and (Doc) Sherman. May God’s love be every near to them during the loss of their loved one.
