Outlook

Hello, hello, to all you folks who are now scanning this week’s Richland Beacon Newspaper to see what  may be offered in the way of reading material.  I do hope that all of you folks are enjoying good health and able to tend to your usual duties.

As most of you folks know quite well, we have been having some pretty hot weather; but, the air conditioning makes our living space quite comfortable.  And, we still have most of this month of August to get through; but, I do think that September will bring us some cooler weather, at night anyway.

And, what have I been doing lately?  Well, I felt so good yesterday that I got into a spell of house cleaning and putting away things in the back part of my home.  And, I was amazed at the difference when I got through with all that activity.  I was really proud of myself and would have liked a pat on my back - but, I was too tired to try that routine.  Oh. yes........

So,, we move on and let’s see what I can comment about this week.  As usual, I attended Woodlawn Baptist Church on Sunday morning and I really enjoy our Ladies Sunday School class and then the preaching hour which follows in the church auditorium with the choir singing and our pastor preaching a good message.  My friend, Laura Pierce, who now lives with me, went to Monroe again with some friends and I don’t know just what special activity they attended this time - I know it was the Salvation Army last week.

CHUCKLE #1 - Two old bachelors were discussing their household difficulties.  “I bought me one of them big cookbooks once,” confided the one, “but, I gave it away.”

“What was the matter;  too much fancy stuff in it?” asked the other.

“Heck, yeah!” snorted the first in disgust.  “”Why, would you believe it, every one of them blamed recipes began with,  “Take a clean dish------.”  ???

Speaking of bachelors reminds me of my three older brothers and their efforts at fixing breakfast when they would sleep a bit too late in the morning.  My mother always made a big pan full of biscuits and fried up some home-cured bacon or sausage and had scrambled eggs to go along with that and plenty of coffee.  So, there was always food available for the late sleepers.

And, you older folks will recall that World War Ii came along and many of our young men either volunteered or got drafted into the Armed Forces.  All three of my brothers served in the Army during that  time - two of them in France and England and the other in one of the island places overseas.  They all came home safe and sound with no serious injuries.  I still remember those years and how we prayed for the war to end and our service-men to come home safely.

I am so thankful to have these good memories since my parents and all three of my brothers are now deceased.  My two older brothers married after WWII; but, they never had any children.  Only my youngest brother (six years older than I) had children - two of them) and Kirby has been in touch with the boy; but, he hasn’t been able to get much “info” from him yet......But, maybe it will come later.....We will hope so.......

CHUCKLE #2 -  “Hello?” cried a shrill female voice over the phone.  “Is this the Humane Society?”

“Yes, madam, what can we do for you?” was the reply.

“I want you to send an officer right over to 120 Main Street,” demanded the voice.

‘Why, what is the trouble?” was asked.

“There’s a nasty peddler sitting in a tree out in front and teasing my poor bulldog,”  was the reply.   ???

Well, I do believe that our local public school will begin in just a short time and I will be hearing those big school busses cranking up five days a week early in the morning near my home.  But, that is a minor problem and I am usually awake by that time of morning anyway.  Seems like I can’t sleep as late now as I could in my younger days.....???  Oh, well, I could have a worse problem???  I do know that I have really been blessed with good health all of my life and I take only two prescriptions now - mostly for appetite and general well being..

So, I will just keep on with my usual routine and see what develops as the years go by.  I am quite content with my life as it is and I pray that it will continue that way for the rest of my sojourn on this good ole’ earth. Oh, yes, that would please me mighty well......

I forgot to bring the list of folks having birthdays this week, so I will have to double up on next week.  Too many “trains” running on one track, I suppose or something similar to that.........

Anyway, I will hope and plan to meet all of you dear readers next week in the same way, place and time...Oh, yes, that is my game plan.
