Oak Grove Moose Lodge seeks approval for alcohol

An attorney representing the Oak Grove Moose Lodge met with the police jury at their regular meeting and said the lodge might ask that ordinances be changed to allow the lodge to go back to the system of service they had previously used. He said there is no application process on the books now for the sale of alcohol.
He pointed out that the lodge had been operating with a system they thought was approved for years, but that the state recently informed them that they had to change that system.
He said the state did not bring any charges against the lodge.
The attorney pointed out that the lodge is self-policing and does not cause any problems in the community as well as the fact that they raise large amounts of money for charitable purposes. He said that one year that amount was over $40,000.
The attorney said he and the jury’s legal advisor are looking at the ordinance which makes West Carroll dry and that the lodge may be asking the jury to change something in the future to allow service in the lodge only. He said they were not making any kind of request at that meeting and indicated that he would like to look further into the ordinances.
When he finished, jurors went on to the next order of business with no comment.
The parish governing body handled several routine business matters.
