Oak Grove man dies in accident

An Oak Grove man lost his life Friday after the tractor he was driving was struck by a truck.

Shortly before 10:30 a.m. on May 22, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Louisiana 587 at the intersection of Turner Road.

This crash took the life of 74-year-old Jimmy Turner of Oak Grove.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed Turner was driving a Ford Farm Tractor east on LA 587 at a slow rate of speed when a 2006 Chevrolet truck, driven by 44-year-old James Womack of Oak Grove, began to pass.

Turner began to make a left turn onto Turner Road when the Chevrolet struck the front left side of the tractor.  After impact, the tractor continued off the road and struck a tree.  Turner suffered severe injuries and died on scene.

A toxicology sample was obtained from each of the drivers and will be submitted for analysis.  This crash remains under investigation.

While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, distracted and inattentive driving continue to be leading causes of crashes in our state. Information on distracted driving may be found online at www.distraction.gov.

In 2015, Troop F has investigated 20 fatal crashes resulting in 22 deaths.
