Online date leads to theft of vehicle

A Rayville man lost his car over the weekend as the result of an online date.

Rayville Police Chief Willie L. Robinson Sr. advised that on Sunday the Rayville Police Department took a complaint from a local resident who advised that his car had been stolen.

During the interview, the resident stated he had given his personal information to a woman he had met online.  He also sent money to his online acquaintance for her to make a trip to Rayville.

At the culmination of her visit, his vehicle was stolen.

Officer Logan Parrish took the initial complaint and Investigator Amanda Wilhite assisted in working the case.  Due to the combined efforts of these officers, the case was quickly resolved and the victim’s vehicle was recovered.

The Rayville Police Department arrested Denise White, 45, of 1417 Congress Ave., Indianapolis, Ind., of charges of theft of a motor vehicle.

Chief Robinson would like to commend his officers for their speedy and efficient resolution of this case.

“Due to their quick response and diligence, Officer Parrish and Investigator Wilhite were able to recover the victim’s vehicle and arrest the suspect all in the same day that the crime was reported,” the chief said.

Chief Robinson stated that this kind of teamwork and efficiency is the hallmark of his department’s investigation of major crimes.
