Birdhouse painting workshop scheduled

Poverty Point World Heritage Site will present a hands-on activity, where guests, ages 8 and up, can paint a birdhouse at 1 p.m. June 13.

Guests are welcome to come and learn about the Poverty Point culture and the impressive large scale earthworks, they built and note how the largest mound, Mound A was built in the shape of a bird. The first five participants to call and pre-register will also get to try their hand at painting a miniature birdhouse.

Families are invited to bring a picnic and join the staff for a fun program. Poverty Point World Heritage Site offers visitors the opportunity to study the culture of area inhabitants from 1600 to 1100 BC.

The $4 admission fee provides access to the area museum, video, hiking trail and tram tour, which are scheduled Wednesday thru Sunday.  Children (12 and under) and senior citizens (62 and over) are admitted free.  Poverty Point is located in West Carroll Parish, east of Monroe on La. 577. Poverty Point World Heritage Site is open daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
