DCS qualifies five athletes for state track meet

The Delhi Charter School track team qualified four male and one  female athletes for the LHSAA State Track Meet at Bernie Moore Track at LSU Friday May 8.

The 4x200 Boys Relay team of Victor Carroll, Reed McMurry, J’Quan Polly, and Christian Colvin placed 1st at the Region 1-1A Track Meet with a time of 1:33.98 to qualify for the State Meet. 

Anna Beth Raley placed third in the 800 Meter Run in 2:42.55 to qualify for State. Athletes have to place in the top three at the Regional Meet to qualify to run at LSU. Polly and Raley are the first eighth grade student athletes to qualify for state in the short history of DCS. 

This is the eighth year in a row that DCS has qualified members of the track team to compete for state honors. Last year Derrick Williams became the first state track champion with a first place in the 300 Meter Hurdles.

Other members placing at regionals include Alana Sullivan, fourth in high jump, 4’10” and fifth in triple jump, 32’1”; 4x100 girls relay team ( Shalondria Polly, Latoya Johnson, Talanja Gray and Alana Sullivan), fifth place, 53.55; 4x200 girls relay team (Star Nester, Eryn Ogden, Shalondria Polly and Latoya Johnson), sixth place, 1:56:10; Christian Colvin, fifth place in 100 Meters, 11.22 and fifth place in 200 Meters, 24.42; 4x100 boys relay team (Victor Carroll, Reed McMurry, J’Quan Polly and Christian Colvin), fifth place, 46.18.

Running Events begin at 5 p.m. May 8 at Bernie Moore Track and Field on the campus of LSU.
