Delhi Bears beat Vidalia Vikings

The Delhi Bears took down the visiting Vidalia Vikings by a score of 32-31 last Friday night.

“The offense came together pretty well in part,” Delhi head coach Jesse Esters said. “The offense really stepped up and played a very solid game.”

The Bears came out to a 12-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and widened it to 20-13 by the half. Vadalia tried to catch up with six points in the third quarter, leaving the Bears ahead 20-19 as they entered the final period. Both teams scored twice in the fourth quarter, leaving the Bears ahead by one point when the clock ran out.

Delhi’s Christian Powell led the passing attack, going 18 for 25 for 222 yards and four touchdown passes. He also intercepted a Vidalia pass while playing defense. Leading receivers were Timothy Powell, J’Marquis Percy and Terrance Wesley.

“On the whole, it seemed our team was set to have a great effort against a well-coached opponent,” Esters said.

Delhi’s defense was led by Johnathan Fountain.

“He posed a lot of problems for Vidalia due to his size and strength,” Esters said.

The Bears are now 1-1 as they prepare for Friday night’s game against LaSalle. The Tigers come into the non-league game with a 2-0 record after defeating Caldwell Parish 29-26.

“LaSalle will pose a problem for us because of their size and strength,” Esters said. “We’ll have to work hard to come out on top.”

The Bears will host LaSalle in Delhi Friday. Kick off is at 7 p.m.
