Delhi Invitational track meet to include 12 area schools

The Delhi High School Invitation track meet will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Delhi High School.

“This is one of the largest and longest running meets in northeast Louisiana,” Delhi head coach Jesse Esters said. “We’re expecting about 12 teams to take part.”

Competition will be held for both boys and girls teams.

Esters said Delhi’s biggest rivalries in the meet are expected to be with the Mangham and Madsion track teams.

“They’ve both been improving every week,” Esters said.

Delhi’s boys’ team is led by Jamerius Clark and Asante Griffin in track events and John Townsend in field events. All have been finishing in the top spots at their meets this year.

The girls are lead by Shakedria Young and Tamia Washington in sprinting field events and Sherithia Nelson in longer runs. Dynesha Williams leads Delhi’s girls in field events, taking first place in shot put in all three of her previous meets this year. Her personal best is 35 feet.

“We’re expecting an exciting meet and we’d like everyone to come out and support the teams,” Ester said.
