Lady Hornets complete perfect season at 10-0

On the strength of their 69-54 win over Mangham the Lady Hornets finished 2A1 district undefeated with a 10-0 record.
It also propelled them from number 5 to 4 in the state power ranking which assures them of three home games as long as they keep winning.
Now the third season (the playoffs) begins as Loreauville (29 seed) comes into Hornet Gym this Thursday February 16, at 6 p.m. Admission $8.
On paper this may appear as an automatic win for Rayville except Loreauville had a tough pre-district schedule that led to early defeats that caused their low and maybe undeserved seed. But once in district 2A6 they went undefeated 8-0.
So the long awaited competition that we have been looking for may be knocking at the door.
However, it may be a much weaker district as no other team in that district made the playoffs while Ferriday (#12), Sterlington (#16) and Mangham (#20) are in for extra play. Mangham is on the road; the other two have home games.
The Lady Dragons came into Hornet Gym undaunted even after losing by 34 points on their on court earlier.
Even though down by 12 after the first quarter they out scored Rayville 16-14 in the second. The final score was 69-54 Hornets. A 19 point improvement for Mangham.
Janiya Colvin led the way for the Dragons with 18 points. She was sensational at the charity stripe hitting 8 of 10. Others scoring were T’Aira Haynes with a couple of threes got 14. Raci Dallas had 8, Charity Keys 6, Candice Haley 4, and Bro’Denica Hicks and Keamber Young had 2 each.
Rayville was once again led by Micaela Wilson with 17 points. Four others were in double figures: Mykiya Wilson 15, T’Kira Fuller 14, Tashunna Neal 11 and Jalexis Kelly had 10.Taleria Cowart added 3.
After almost impossible odds (a severe knee injury in December) senior Emonni Baker returned to play. She did not score during her short stint but cleared some of the cobwebs away. The former starter will be a great asset the remainder of the season.
Hornet Gym is just a building; the home court advantage comes when it is packed with enthusiastic and cheering fans. Lets get out and support these most deserving girls
