Outlook

Hello, hello, to all of you folks who are now scanning this week’s Richland Beacon News to see what may be offered in the way of news.  I do hope good health prevails among our town-folks as we endure the hottest weather we’ve had for this summer.  And, keep in mind that we still have the month of August to get through.

After that, I have hope of it getting a bit cooler in September, especially at night.  We’ll see about that....I can hope anyway.....Oh, yes........

So, what have I been doing since last week?  I do have a bit of news to report concerning my great-grand-daughter, Abby Wiggins, whose parents are Kristi and Roy Wiggins, Jr. of the rural west Mangham area.  I traveled with my son, Kirby and his wife, Linda, down to that area several miles to the west to Calvary Baptist Church on last Friday afternoon for the wedding of their grand-daughter (my great g.d.) Abby Wiggins to Hunter Penick.

Everything was just perfect as the couple made it through the entire ceremony without any mistakes.  Of course, it took a little while to get away from the church and we went briefly to Roy’s folks’ home while the newly-weds finished their last-minute packing.

Next, we all drove on down south and crossed the great Mississippi River at Natchez, (I think) and we ate supper at some place which I didn’t ever get the exact name.  It was very popular since lots of customers were already there,  Anyway, we ate a lot of good food and then headed back toward home, leaving the newly-weds there in that area to spend a bit of time alone.  Oh,  yes......I’m sure they were glad to see us depart........??

CHUCKLE #1 - Mother frowned as the little boy reached for the pie plate.  “Why do you always reach for the largest piece of pie, Sammy?” she reproved.  “Don’t you think your big brother ought to have it?”

“I should say not.” said Sammy as he scooped up the piece in question.  “”He was eatin’ pie five years before I was born.”  ???

And, that brings us down to thinking of the month and the day in which I am now writing this week’s column.  That would be in the last week of July, the seventh month of this year and that should leave five more months--August, September, October, November and December.  Of course, that will include the school starting for our children in just a few weeks and then there will be Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Wow!!! That is quite a bit, huh??? I do think so, myself.......I will have to pray for extra strength and fortitude..... oh.yes....

My friend, Laura Pierce, enjoyed a nice outing this past Sunday as she traveled to Monroe with some friends.

They visited a Salvation Army place where they had some some kind of special entertainment. I did not get all the details of their trip; but, I know Laura said they returned to Rayville and realy enjoyed a good supper at our local San Miguel Mexican Restaurant.  And, I agree that is just about as good or better than you can find most anywhere.  Oh, yes, indeed........

CHUCKLE #2 - “How much are the eggs today?” inquired a woman of the storekeeper.

“Sixty cents a dozen, madam,” was the answer.

“What!” exclaimed the woman, “Why, that’s a nickel for each egg!”

“I know, madam,” agreed the storekeeper.  “But, don’t forget that one egg is a whole day’s work for a hen.”  ???

So, we move on a little further in this week’s column.   I am still getting out in the late afternoon with my little pooch, Cookie, for our walk around our large block of homes.  I don’t know which of us (Cookie or me) enjoys this the most.  She struts along on her leash like a little queen (which she really is) and I am close behind her.  We rarely see anyone - I suppose it is still too hot for most folks to get outside.  That’s why I wait so late to get out each day.  Now, if we can just make it through August, we should see a bit of coolness after that.

We do have a family reunion coming up in September and I have a reunion of my high-school class this fall; but, I’m not sure that I will get to attend that affair.  We’ll see....    I do have some belated birthdays to report since I forgot to bring that “info” with me last week for my column.

The belated folks are:  Lynn Smith, Russell Shoemaker and Leah Gilley on 7/23;  Dana Townsend, Tut Bolton, James Barham, Kathie Smart, Cindy Hodge. Melda Silk and Michael Anderson on 7/24; Billie Jo Boughton, Monica Hogg and Sidney Odom on 7/25; Darlene Siscoe, Lillian Hartman, Jack Grissom, Windell Robbins and Dr. Chris Morris on 7/27 and for Wade Morgan on 7/29.  We hope that all of these folks had a very happy celebration of their natal day and we wish them many, many more........

Folks havng birthdays coming up this week are as follows:  Randy Pierce on 7/30; Gerald Jordan on 7/31; Daisy Smith on 8/1; Kristi Brown and David Williams on 8/2; Beth Milby, Carla Franks and Mecca King on 8/3; Sherry Thames on 8/4; Dale Johnson, Blake McCowin and Meagan McVay on 8/5.  And, we do wish each of these birthday folks a most happy celebration of their natal day and may they look forward to many more Happy  Birthdays.....Oh, yes, indeed.......

And, that will bring another Outlook effort to a close for one more week.  I do hope to meet all of you readers next week, same time and place and all that other “good stuff.”

PARTING THOUGHT:  Trust is kind of like a mirror - You can fix it if it’s broken; but, you can still see the crack in the reflection......???
