Outlook

Hello, hello, to all you dear and special readers out there this fine Tuesday morning.  It seems a bit unusual to be writing this column on a Tuesday instead of the usual Monday; but, we had a holiday on Monday (Memorial Day} and so most folks took advantage of that opportunity.

I joined my son, Kirby and his wife, Linda, and we all drove down to the rural home of KIrby’s daughter, Kristi and her husband, Roy Wiggins, Jr. out in the country west of Mangham.  There were a lot of folks already there and I wouldn’t even try to list them; but, everyone was in good spirits and moving around quite well.

Just about the first thing we did after the meeting and greeting period was to make a little trip down to see the new outdoor swimming pool which had just recently been completed on the lower part of the Wiggins backyard.  This was so nice and the children were certainly enjoying jumping off the diving board into the pool.

We returned to the Wiggins home in plenty of time for the delicious meal which had been prepared.  This was so nice and the food tasted so good.  I have never been timid about admitting that I enjoy good food and lots of it.  I hate to see someone poking and picking over food as they try to see just what it may contain.  My Mama taught her children to eat whatever she cooked and set before them on the table.  And, that is pretty well  the way we lived our lives - learning and dealing with problems of life as they came along.  Sp. I still try to follow that same pattern in my life today and I find it works most of the time.  And, if at first you don’t succeed, then you try again and maybe another time or two.  Oh, yes, I believe that works out very well.........

CHUCKLE #1 - Mrs. Smith, our neighbor, must be offended at something I said or did,” remarked the woman to  her husband.  “She hasn’t been over for almost a week now.”

“Well, when she does come over again, be sure to find out what it was,” instructed the husband, “so we can try it again on her.”

Getting back to our day at the Wiggins home, some of the younger folks got into a lively card game; but, I just watched from the sideline without trying to play.

There was plenty of food to munch on and cold drinks and that was enough for me.  We returned home late in the afternoon and I believe we were well satisfied with all of our activities that day.  I know I was glad to get home to my special chair and my little pooch, “Cookie” and we even included taking our late evening walk around our big block of homes located up on “the hill” south of town.

So, we move on in this month of May and I do believe this is the last column I will write for this month.  And, then we will be into the month of June and it has to be another favorite of mine since I was born in that month many years ago.  Oh, yes......And, I was the first girl in the family after three older brothers, so my parents were quite happy with my arrival.  Of course, they would have loved another boy; but, they were pleased to have a little girl to complete their family.  And, I think all of my brothers thought that I was kind of special and they treated me quite well as I tagged along after them as much as they would allow.  They are all deceased now and only one of them had children and my son, Kirby has been getting in touch recently with one of them somewhere over in Texas.  I plan to follow through on that..........

CHUCKLE #2 - The boss frowned as the applicant for the position of Office  Boy. “Look here, son,” he said, “weren’t you here just a week ago for this job?”

“Yes, sir,” was the reply.

“And didn’t I tell you that I wanted an older boy?” asked the boss.

“Yes, you did, sir,” answered the boy. “ And, that ‘s why I am back because I am older now.”    ???

As we look forward to the coming month of June, I have only good thoughts and pleasant memories.  The older I get seems to agree with me in most every way.  I am so thankful that I don’t have any aches or pains and I can still get about quite well without any help.  I do take a walking cane when I take my little dog, “Cookie” out for our late afternoon walk and I could use that as a kind of weapon; but, I don’t worry about that.  We live in a good neighborhood and I am quite content with all my neighbors.

And, school is out for the summer, so all the children will be enjoying their freedom from having to go to school five days each week.  So, we will be seeing more activity from the kiddos around the block in the days ahead.  So goes the days of our lives.....

Our family used to always take a summer vacation somewhere in another state; but, we don’t do that anymore.  The older I get, the more I enjoy just being at home by myself.  I can always read a good book and I enjoy watching some of the programs on TV - so why should I fret about the mundane things???   Not me.......No, no.....not me..........

Folks are still having birthdays and I have a few to list for this week and they are as follows:  Rev. Joe Arnold on 5/28; Victoria Mannin on 5/31; Jenny Branch on 6/1; Tom Oswalt, Tyler Heath and Fred Lambert on 6/3 and that is as far as I have information on birthdays at this time.

So, we will say goodbye, so long, nice to keep in touch with you and see you next week, same time, place, etc. Oh, yes, that is my game plan..........

PARTING THOUGHT:  Consider this thought:  Sometimes, it may be better to ask some questions than to know all the answers.  (Oh, yes, I believe that......I really do...................)
