Outlook
Hello, hello, to all of you readers who are now scanning the Richland Beacon News to see what it
may contain for another week. We are now getting on into the month of May that means this new year
is passing right on by.
I know that youngsters everywhere are looking forward to the end of this years school-term when
they will be out of school for the summer. We did things a bit differently many years ago when I was in grade school. In fact, school began about the second week in September and we went to school five days a week. We got out just for major holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Also, the school term came to an end for the summer break which was always welcome. I could always look forward to entering a higher grade when school began in the fall for a new year. Oh, yes, I always made good grades so my parents would be proud of me.
So, this month of May is moving right along and May does contain one notable holiday and that is
“Mothers Day” which happened this past Sunday. My son, Kirby and his wife, Linda, picked me up at
my home and we made it to Woodlawn Baptist Church for Sunday School and the morning worship
service. We then headed out south toward Mangham - but, we stopped for lunch at Sanders Country
Kitchen just on the outskirts of town. The food was so good and we saw several people whom we
knew and we chatted with them while eating our meal. And, I did receive a lovely card from Kirby and Linda in Linda in honor of this special occasion.
CHUCKLE #1 - In a recent survey, 60 percent of respondents said the cities they live in are more
noisy now than they were five years ago. The other 40 percent didn’t hear the question. ???
We drove on to Mangham where we turned right and drove on several miles to the rural home of
Kristi and Roy Wiggins, Jr. who were expecting us. And, we had a good time there chatting as we exchanged various news items
After we were back on the highway headed for Rayville, we came to the area where the Northeast Lou
Louisiana War Veterans Cemetery has been established. Kirby turned off the highway and drove
around over the interior and I was so impressed. It is already looking very nice; but, when the trees
and other shrubbery reach full growth, it will be extremely lovely and a place in which our veterans
will be honored and their families will be pleased to visit there in the years to come.
Well, as most of you folks know or may recall, it has now been about a month since my little dog, “Cookie” died and I still miss that little lady so very much. I think I have already mentioned about my
getting sympathy cards from folks who read about Cookie’s death when I wrote about it last month.
One of the sweetest notes was from a lady in Delhi, who said that she felt as though she knows me
pretty well after reading my weekly Outlook column for many years. And, the lady told me that if I wanted another dog, she had one that could be mine. I am still debating that issue; but, I will likely take on a new pooch before too long. I will keep you posted..........
CHUCKLE #2 - The wife had left the car unattended for only a moment; but it was long enough for her son to climb in, throw the car into reverse and crash into a lamp post. The boy was fine; but the car was not and she had a time explaining it to the insurance company.
After a brief pause, the adjuster asked, “Do you let him drive often?” ????
I just let each day take care of itself as much as possible. Oh, yes indeed....
And, we are having some beautiful weather after that good bit of rain. I still have some dead leaves to sweet up here and there over my yard; but, I should be just about finished with that job after next week.
Folks are still having birthdays and I have a few to list for this week and they are as follows: Amy Boone and Sarah E. Patrick on 5/13; Phyllis Jones, Michael Grissom, Randy Stephens and J. D. Williams on 5/18. May all of these folks celebrate their birthday well and wisely and we wish them many more in their future. Oh, yes indeed......
And that will bring another Outlook effort to a close for one more week. I hope to meet all of you dear readers next week in the same way, same time and place. Oh, yes.......
PARTING THOUGHT: The most important part of a story is the ending. No one reads a book to get to the middle of it. ???
