Outlook for April 9, 2015

Hello, hello and Good Morning or whatever time of day you folks may be scanning this week’s Richland Beacon News.  I trust that everyone enjoyed celebrating Easter Sunday with family and good friends.  I attended Sunday School and the morning worship service at Woodlawn Baptist Church  and then I traveled with my son, Kirby and his wife, Linda as we all made our way down to the rural home of Roy Wiggins, Jr. and his wife, Kristi and their daughter. Abby.   They live out in the country several miles west of Mangham, La.  We arrived to find other guests, Roy and Trudy Wiggins and their daughter, Sara Wooten and her husband, Jimmy and a friend, Eddie Stokes.  The ladies had cooked up a lot of good food and we all chowed down on it to our tummy’s content.  After that, we played a lively game of dominoes and then ate some more.  What a day!  I was pretty well pooped out by the time I got home in the late afternoon.  I sure didn’t need rocking to sleep that night.

Well, I am now looking forward to kind of settling down to enjoy this month of April.  As I have said before, this is my most favorite month of the year since some special things happened me in the Aprils of by-gone years.  Remember??  I got married in that month many years ago and later on came to live here in Rayville on the first of April in 1949.  Yes, yes, I know that dates me pretty well; but, I am enjoying life and I plan to keep on enjoying each year as long as I live.  Oh, yes.........

CHUCKLE #1 - Junior’s grades were all low, and stayed that way despite mother’s pleading and scolding.  At last, she promised him a quarter if he would get a high grade in something.  The next day he came running home crying, “Gimme the quarter, Mom, I got 100 in two things today!”

“You did?” said mother.  “What were they?”

“Spelling an’ ‘rithmetic,” replied Junior. “Got 55 in one and 45 in the other.”  ?? (I doubt he got paid for that.)

Well, let’s move on a bit further and see what I can call to mind to write about as we get on into this month.  I’ve been kind of dusting off air-conditioners in my windows since I know they will soon be needed for the hot summer months.  But, here comes a bit of rain and it turns cooler again.  Oh, yes, I know we have July and August coming along as the hottest periods; but, I expect to make it through those months pretty well if I can stay inside my home most of the time.  It usually cools up o.k. as night comes on.  And, I will turn on the air conditioners if the weather gets really hot.   Oh, yes........I like to be comfortable........

And, I do get out for my late afternoon walk with my little pooch, “Cookie.”  She is so willing to go where-ever our path may lead.  She struts along on her leash and I follow.  I am still having some trouble from the  mishap I had about three weeks ago when I slipped and fell on the ground during a walk  I have been to my doctor since then and had X-rays; but, they didn’t show any fractures.  I suppose it just takes longer for old bones and ligaments to recover from the shock of hitting the ground suddenly.  ????  Oh, well, it could have been a whole lot worse........And, I promised myself to be extra careful where-ever I go...Oh, yes, yes.......

CHUCKLE #2 - The farmer’s two schoolboy sons were arguing about a point of grammar.  ‘I’ll betcha it’s right to  say a hen is ‘sitting’ “ declared one hotly.

“And, I’ll bet it should be ‘setting,’ “ said the other.  At this point, the farmer spoke up.  “All that don’t amount to nothing, boys,” he stated.  “What I want to know is, when a hen is cackling is she laying or lying.”  ???

So, this day is moving on and I am ready to move on with it.  Do you ever wish for a magic wand to give you a glimpse into the future?  That could be good or it might not be so good??  So, I will just continue to live my life as it comes - one day at the time and give thanks for it and try to make the most of each day.  And, I do enjoy life and I look forward to each day and what it may bring with it.  Oh, yes.....That’s the way I see it.....

And, folks are still having birthdays and I do have a few to include this week and they are:  Brian Stewart on 4/9; Karen Shoemaker and Phillip McQueen on 4/10; Kelli Thames on 4/11; Amber Boone, Jared Kennedy, Charmaine Pickel and Kathleen Eager on 4/12; Brian Cockerham, Joy Williamson, Austin Thames, Brian Prewitt, Margie Dampier, Margie Holloway and Dr. Angie Willoughby on 4/14 and for Ted Howes, Elloise Walker and Linda Branch on 4/15.  May all of these birthday folks have a most happy celebration of their natal day and we wish them many, many more in the years to come.  Oh, yes, indeed.........

So, I will say so long, goodbye and all that stuff until next week when I hope to meet you folks again, same way....Oh, yes...That’s my game plan.  Oh, yes..

PARTING THOUGHT:  Hard work spotlights the character of people.  Some folks turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses and some don’t turn up at all.
