Outlook for March 26, 2015

By Melba Hendrix

Hello, hello, good morning to all of you folks out there who are now scanning the Richland Beacon News for whatever it may offer for this week. The sun is shining outside and it seems that we will have a lovely day.

I usually report that I began this week by attending Woodlawn Baptist Church; but, I did not feel so chipper on Sunday morning, so I just stayed in bed a while longer and then I got up to begin my day at home.

Our weather is still acting up some and the predictions don’t always follow through. We did have a bit of rain over the weekend; but I just stayed inside and let it rain until it quit. The recent snow had all melted and I feel that I can now look forward to Spring coming with all its splendor of early flowers blooming. Oh, yes.......

I do have some happy memories of the month of April one of those things was getting married many years ago and I have never regretted that. I had a very happy marriage with my husband and we enjoyed forty-seven years together and that’s more than some couples have. Oh, yes, we had a very happy marriage,

CHUCKLE #1 - The girl was in a terrible temper. She ranted, “I thought Eddie really loved me. But, when I asked him what he would do if he had to choose between me and a million dollars, he said he would take the money.”

“That doesn’t mean he doesn’t love you,” comforted her friend. “He just knew that if he had the million, it would be a cinch to get you.” ????

Another good thing which happened to me was that of coming to Rayville to live in April of 1949. My, my, that was many years ago; but, I can recall it as if it were yesterday. And, I will always give thanks to my husband’s Uncle Dick Hendrix for bringing me and my family here to live. Our first home was in the old Balfour house which is still located just a few blocks north of town. We had the two rooms located on the east end of that house. It was easy for me to walk into town to work each morning and that was good since we did not own a car at that time.

The Balfour home (owned by the late Mrs. Ethel Balfour) is still there and it shows signs of old age since the paint is peeling and it has been vacant for many years. I had so hoped that somebody (perhaps a ladies club group) might take over the old home and make a show-place out of it. Oh, well, it’s out of my hands; but, I do treasure my memories of our first coming here to live and the Balfour house is just one of my memories.

CHUCKLE #2 - The lady who had recently been baptized was walking down the street and met a small boy whose family was of the same church. “Hello, Tommy,” she said and as the boy seemed puzzled, she added, “You don’t know me do you?”

“Now, I remember,” said the boy. “You are the lady who went swimming with the preacher last Sunday.” ???

As I grow older, I continue to think of my family as I grew up with three older brothers and all them served in the U.S. Army during WWII. They all served in foreign countries and all came back home safe and sound.

I was the only girl and am now the only surviving one in our immediate family. My oldest two brothers never had any children although they did get married. My youngest brother had two children, a boy and a girl and my son, Kirby has recently been in touch with James (his first cousin) and has learned a bit about his family. I hope we can all stay in touch as the years go by.......

So, I am now content to just be at home and I do enjoy watching television and I do read the daily newspaper. Oh, yes, I do want to keep up with current events. And, I don’t worry about the future or how long I may live - that matter is not under my control and I am satisfied with it being that way. Oh, yes indeed.......

Birthdays are soon coming up for some area folks and they are: Chris Maxwell, Kathy Barr and Stacey Bennett on 3/27; Lucille Wade on 3/28; Johnny Sorey, Mike Finley, Susan Graham, Neal Hixon, Brandon Malone, Ashley Moore, Rae Adcox and Meagan Moore on 3/29 and for Lance Griffin on 3/30 and Myrtis DeWitt on 4/1. May all of these birthdays folks have a most happy celebration of their natal day and we wish them many, many more to come.....Oh, yes indeed...............!!!!!

And, that will just about wrap up another Outlook column for one more week. I will say goodbye, so long and all that good stuff - until we meet again........

PARTING THOUGHT: A friend will always come to your defense, no matter how often called upon to do it or how unpopular it makes her or him. (Oh yes, and I am truly thankful for all of my friends. Oh, yes, indeed......)
