Raiders go one for three in baseball action

The Riverfield Academy Raiders were very active last week, playing games every night except Wednesday.

Monday night, the Raiders hosted the Central Hinds Cougars. The Cougars defeated the Raiders 11-0. Before the game began, the team took time to honor the three seniors on this year’s team with a special recognition ceremony. Those seniors are first baseman Cody Hixon, right fielder Marc Simmons and center fielder Brennan Morris. The Raiders wish these young men the best in all of their future endeavors. Their dedication and contribution to Raider baseball will always be remembered and appreciated.

Tuesday, the Raiders hosted the Tensas Chiefs and took the victory by a score of 14-0. Big hitters in the game included Noah Wroten with a triple and a single, Nathan Barham with a double and two singles, Blake Daniel with a double, Cody Hixon with three singles, Brennan Morris with two singles, Austin Salisbury and Cole Morris, Matthew Weems and Caleb Parker with a single each.

Thursday the Raiders hosted the Claiborne Academy Rebels. In a hard fought contest, the game was very close until the Rebels rallied in the top of the sixth inning, upping a 3-2 lead to a 7-2 lead. The Raiders scored one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning but could do no more and the Rebels took a 7-3 victory.

On Friday, the Raiders traveled to Natchez to take on the Adams County Christian School Rebels.

The Raiders took an early lead in the game. The Rebels, however, fought back and stole the lead from the Raiders in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Raiders never regained the lead and went on to lose 18-13. One Raider highlight of the game was a three-run homer hit by Noah Wroten in the top of the fifth inning.

The Raiders have only one scheduled game this week. It will be tonight, April 16, as they will travel to Homer and try to even the score with Claiborne Academy.

Playoff action will begin April 20. As of now, the Raiders do not know who they will be playing in the first round of action.

They will know something after Friday when all of the MAIS districts have completed their regular seasons.
