Rayville Police Chief Willie Robinson advised all citizens of Rayville that there are city ordinances and state laws governing the public use and carrying of alcoholic beverages.

“It is against the law to have an open alcoholic beverage container in a vehicle or in a public place that is not an establishment where alcohol is served,” the chief said.

Chief Robinson advised that citizens who are going to consume alcohol should do so responsibly.

“If you are drinking, don’t drive,” the chief said. “If you are drinking, limit your consumption to a responsible amount and avoid verbal and physical altercations with others when you are under the influence of alcohol.”

Chief Robinson also commented that carrying open alcoholic containers in your vehicle or in a public place will result in being arrested and charged accordingly, which will result in fines and even possibly incarceration.

Chief Robinson encourages all citizens to come by the Rayville Police Department at 900 Harrison St. or to call 728-4431 if you need his help in any way.
