Rayville Police Chief Willie Robinson advised parents should be especially watchful over their children now that school is out for the summer.  Chief Robinson stated that parents should know where their children are at all times and who they are hanging out with.

“If you are working, make sure your children have adult supervision when you’re not home,” said the chief. “Even if your children are old enough to stay home alone, there should still be an adult they can call in case of an emergency.”

Chief Robinson would also like to remind parents to make sure their children abide by the curfew, which means they should be indoors no later than 11 p.m. Sunday night through Thursday night and midnight on Friday night and Saturday night.  Chief Robinson also advised that the parents of juveniles who are arrested for criminal acts – including but not limited to curfew violations – can also be arrested and charged in some instances.

Chief Robinson advised motorists of the importance of keeping their vehicles in roadworthy condition.

“You may only legally be required to have your vehicle inspected once a year; but for safety reasons you should personally inspect your vehicle frequently to make sure lights and turn signals are not burned out, brakes are working, the horn is working and check other mechanical issues,” said the chief.

Chief Robinson stated that if you are driving a vehicle in which something is not functioning properly, you are a danger not only to yourself and the passengers in your vehicle, but to every other vehicle on the road.

Chief Robinson encourages all citizens to come by the Rayville Police Department at 900 Harrison St. or to call 728-4431 if you need his help in any way.
