Reans named coach of the year

The MAIS recently announced Riverfield Academy Coach Mike Reans as the Coach of the Year for the girls and boys basketball team in District 3-AA for the 2014-2015 season.

Coach Reans first year to take over the girls team with only three varsity girls having any playing time from last year. After a month of early growing pains the girls started playing Mike Reans style of basketball and had bought into his system. During the Christmas break the girls had a huge win at the Bayou Christmas Tournament and won the championship. Erin Branch and Joanna Franklin were voted on the All Tournament team.

District play began and the Lady Raiders continued playing hard and won a nail bitter against PVA to win the District Championship. This win insured the Lady Raiders a trip to the North State Tournament and ended the season with a 14-12 record. With Coach Reans guidance these girls were selected to the All District team, Seniors, Joanna Franklin, Ali Green, Junior, Erin Branch, Sophmores,  Madelyne Farrar, Hon. Mention, Jenna Brakefield.

This was the third year for the boys to have Coach Reans stamp on them and boy did it show throughout the year. The Raiders ended the season with a 27-4 record, Consecutive Undefeated District Championship, River Oaks Tourney Championship, Consecutive Bayou Christmas Tourney Championship with Joseph Morris and Tristan Oswald on the All Tourney Team, North State Tournament and State Tournament appearances.

Coach Reans hard work and dedication reflected with seniors Tristan Oswald and Marc Simmons, juniors Noah Wroten, Brennan Shelton, Joseph Morris and honorable mention John Kevin Greer on the All District Team and Noah Wroten winning the District MVP for the second year in a row. 

Noah Wroten and Tristan Oswald were elected to the North State All Tourney Team. Marc Simmons was elected to play in the All Star game on the North Team and Noah Wroten was elect to the MAIS All First AA Team.

Now with Coach Reans handling all Basketball operations the Raiders basketball program has a bright future ahead. This program has packed the gym over the years with standing room only and the board has approved for a new wood floor and a huge expansion of the gym that will double the seating capacity which should be ready for the 2015-2016 season.

We want to thanks Coach Reans and congratulate him for being the District 3-AA Coach of the Year for the Girls and Boys 2014-2015 Season and all the Raider fans are looking forward to another exciting season.
