Sheriff Jones elected to fifth term

Tensas Sheriff Rickey A. Jones received an overwhelming 61% of the vote and will return to office for a fifth term. He polled 1409 votes during Saturday’s Primary Election.
Challenger Robert Pearson received 814 votes, for 35%; and Miles Jenkins, Sr. received 84 votes for 4%. All of the candidates are Democrats.
In the race for Clerk of Court, Christina “Christy” Lee has won. She received 1209 votes for 53%. Incumbert Clerk Ernest Sikes finished second with 596 votes (26%). Others seeking the post were Michelle Ezell, 364 votes (16%); and Linda McConnell Harwell, 121 votes (5%). All candidates are Democrats.
Larry Foster (Dem.) will be the new police juror from District 1, outpolling incumbent Emmett L. Adams. Jr. (Rep.) and Jeraldine London (Dem.). Adams received 23% of the votes with 66; and London received 60 votes for 21%.
In District 3, Thomas Crigler (Rep.) and incumbent John D. “Bubba” Winn (Rep.) will be in a runoff. Crigler finished first with 166 votes (37%) and Winn received 112 votes for 25%. Jane Netterville was close behind at 103 votes for 23%. Also on the ballot was Steve Cardin (Rep.) with 71 votes for 16%.
Only two candidates sought the Districts 4, 5 and 6 slots.
William Trevillion (Dem.) will retain his seat in the fourth disttict. He defeated Glynis Watson Cephus garnering 241 votes for 74% to 85 votes (26%).
The District 5 race was won by incumbent Roderick “Rod” Webb (Dem.) who polled 247 votes (81%). His challenger, Anthony “Tony” Britton (Dem.) received 59 votes (19%).
Bubba Rushing will assume the role of District 6 Juror. He defeated incumbent Carl Frank Olds. Sr. by 67 votes. The final talley was Rushing (Dem.) 195 votes (60%) to Olds’ 128 votes (40%).
There will also be a runoff for the District 7 seat between Jamie “Lil Stump” Davis and Robert Clark. Davis received the most votes with 156 (45%) and Clarks received 105 votes (30%). Incumbent Woodrow W. Wiley, Jr. who received 88 votes (25%) finished last.
All three belong to the Democratic Party.
Statewide, John Bel Edwards (Dem.) and David Vitter (Rep.) will face off in the November 21 General Election. Tensas Parish voters cast 924 for Edwards (41%) but favored Scott A. Angelle (Rep.) 568 votes 25% over Vitter who received 318 Tensas Parish votes (14%). Statewide, Edwards received 444,061 votes. Vitter received 256, 105; Angelle got 214,907.
Other challengers for governor were Jay Dardenne (Rep.) with 166,553 votes; Cary Deaton (Dem.) 11,750; S. L. Simpson (Dem.) with 7,411 votes; Beryl Billiot, 5,690; Jeremy J. W. Odom, 4,755; and Eric Paul Orgeron (Other) with 2,244.
Melvin L. “Kip” Holden (Dem.) was the favorite of Tensas voters for Lt. Governor with 858 votes (40%). In a close race for the position, Billy Nungesser (Rep.) and Holden will be in a runoff. Statewide totals were Holden 360,679; Nungesser, 324,654; John Young (Rep.) 313,183; and Elbert Lee Guillory (Rep.) 85,460.
Voters in Tensas Parish cast 1124 votes for “Tom”Schedler (Rep.) who was re-elected Secretary of State. Statewide totals were Schedler, 649,153 votes; Tyson 394,153.
A runoff between incumbent Attorney General James D. “Buddy” Caldwell and “Jeff” Landry, both Republicans will also be on the November ballot.
Caldwell garnered 376,187; Landry received 347,411; Geraldine “Geri” Broussard Baloney (Dem.) received 187,332 votes; Isaac “ Ike” Jackson (Dem.) 115,0376 votes; and “Marty” Maley (Rep.) 37787. Tensas Parish votes were 1099 for Caldwell and 353 for Landry.
Republican John Kennedy was re-elected State Teasurer with 787,128 votes to challenger Jennifer Treadway’s (Rep.) 195,595 votes. Tensas votes favored Kennedy, casting 1565 votes for him and 332 for Treadway.
Mike Strain (Rep.) will remain Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry. He received 603,557 votes (58%). His nearest challenger was Charlie Greer (Dem.) with 312,335 votes.
Jim Donelon (Rep.) will also return to his post as Commission of Insurance receiving 561,382 votes statewide for 54%.
Gary Jones will be the BESE board representative for District 5. He defeated Johnny Fatheree 77,301to 46,863votes. Both are Republicans.
In the 20th Representative District, Steve Pylant defeated Cleve Womack 8,610 to 5,489 votes.
Four Constitutionl Amendments were also on the ballot. Voters did not favor No.1 for Budget and Transportation Stabilization; No. 3 Fiscal Legislative Session; but voted in favor of No. 2, Funds for Transportation and No. 4, Property Tax Exemption for Public Land/Property.
