Tax renewal process begun in West Carroll Parish

West Carroll Parish Police Jurors voted to start the process for setting an election for renewal of two one-half cent sales taxes at their regular June meeting.
The jurors also took action on two retirements of long-time serving office holders.
The taxes are for the fire departments and for the ambulance district.  Jurors discussed changing the language to allow payment of a small stipend to volunteer firemen when they answer calls.  The action had been requested by fire departments who say they are trying to keep enough volunteers to answer the calls.
In other action they jury announced that Ximena Hanks, registrar of voters, will retire July 1 and that Martha Stephens, secretary-treasurer, will retire January 31.
They appointed Kelli Drurey, who is now serving as assistant registrar, to the registrar post.  
Angela Griffis was appointed to replace Mrs. Stephens as secretary-treasurer effective on her retirement.
The jury was given a good audit report.
