Town of Clarks adopts millage rate

The Town of Clarks adopted the millage rate for the tax year 2015-2016 at their regularly scheduled meeting held on April 14.  A public meeting was held with no objections. The rate will be the same as the previous year’s rate at 6.230.

The minutes from the special meeting held on March 30 were adopted.  The minutes from the regularly scheduled meeting held on March 10 were amended.  The correction to the minutes state “All original documents must stay in the town hall unless requested by a state entity. “ 

The financial statements were reviewed and approved.  Mayor Chad Coates called for a spending freeze except for emergencies with the water/sewer system. The Mayor is reviewing all accounts and the water fund to determine why there are problems with them. 

The Police Department report was presented by Police Chief Robert Pearson.  He said the police department had issued $4,938.00 in tickets.  Expenditures with tires, gas and salaries were $1,943.10. 

A resolution was made to have Mayor’s Court every two months instead of three effective at the June 16th court session  Mayor’s Court handles traffic tickets and other fines that are issued by the police department.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Town of Clarks will be held on Tuesday, May 12 at 7:00 p.m.
