West Carroll residents warned of Secret Shopper scam

Scammers using secret shopper as a bait for potential victims have been reported in West Carroll.
Oak Grove acting Police Chief Louis Russell said the scammers will call a resident on the telephone and offer them money for shopping or doing a survey about a business’ cleanliness.
When the victim responds the scammer tells him they owe him a certain amount of money for his services.  They then say they can’t send a check for that amount so they will send a much larger check, instructing the victim to take his money out and send the rest back by money order.
He said the check sent out by the scammer is bogus and that if the victim takes money out of the bank to send, they lose it.
Russell advises citizens not to handle anybody else’s money and to report any scamming attempts.  
“We have had a couple of complaints here,” he said.
