Deputies find body of missing Richland man

The body of a missing Richland Parish man was found Sunday morning after a two-day search.

Richland Parish Sheriff Lee Harrell said his office received a missing person report for Jeremiah T. Hewitt, 27, at approximately 8:15 p.m. June 5.

Hewitt’s family said he was missing and they’d last seen him around 8 p.m. June 4. He was reported to be in a depressed state of mind and had left his residence on LA Hwy 135 walking. 

A search was conducted Friday night, and Saturday with little results.  Hewitt’s personal property, including a cell phone, were found by a neighbor in the neighbors driveway near Hwy 135. 

The search resumed Sunday morning, and Hewitt’s body  was found around noon in a body of water known as Purvis Brake located just off of LA Hwy 135; not far from his residence. 

“Our investigation is continuing and Hewitt’s body has been sent for an autopsy,” Harrell said.
