Police jury gets clean 2014 audit

The Richland Parish Police Jury’s most recent audit report shows the organization has been doing a good job of managing the parish’s money.

CPA Cindy Haynes met with the police jury Monday nigh to deliver the findings of her annual audit.

“It’s a very, very good audit,” Haynes said.

Haynes noted that parish assets had grown from $13.1 million in 2013 to $13.4 million in 2015.

While liabilities had also increased slightly, the net result was that the parish’s bottom line had grown from $10.1 million in 2013 to $10.4 million by the end of 2014.

“You incurred no new debt last year,” she added, “which is really impressive.”

Haynes added that only one problem was found in the police jury’s operational procedures.

“The only thing I put in was inadequate separation of duties ... which I put in every year just to cover myself,” Haynes said.

The recommendation notes a situation in which police jury employees often do more than one job which should ideally be handled by different people in order to reduce opportunities for theft or mistakes. However, most small organizations don’t have enough office staff to fully separate duties.
