Rayville woman dies in accident

A Rayville woman died Oct. 28 after the vehicle she was driving crossed the center line into the path of another vehicle.

Shortly after 7 a.m. Oct. 28, troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two-vehicle fatality crash that occurred on US Highway 80 east of Start.

The initial investigation revealed a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by 36-year-old Shameka Johnson of Rayville was traveling east on US 80 when, for unknown reasons, her vehicle crossed the center line into the opposing lane of travel.  The Cavalier collided head-on with a 2015 Honda Accord, driven by 21-year-old Brandi Suttle of Rayville.

Although Johnson was properly restrained, she sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.  She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Richland Parish Coroner’s Office.  Suttle, who was properly restrained, was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.

A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis.  The crash remains under investigation.

In 2015, Troop F has investigated 42 fatal crashes resulting in 46 deaths.
