Sheriff awards scholarships

Richland Parish Sheriff Lee Harrell has awarded scholarships to two college-bound teens  from Richland Parish.

Sheriff Harrell announced that Chrishana R. Puckett of Delhi High School has been named as one of the recipients of an academic scholarship for the 2014-2015 school year.

She resides in Delhi and plans to attend University of Louisiana at Monroe and pursue Nursing as a field of study.  Puckett is the granddaughter of Earma May Puckett.

The second recipient is Holly Claire Johnson of Riverfield Academy.

She resides in Rayville and and plans to attend Louisiana Tech University. Johnson is the daughter of Christy Johnson and the late Kenneth Johnson.

One scholarship is made possible by the Louisiana Sheriff’s Honorary Membership Program.  Louisiana Sheriffs provide scholarships to graduating high school students from each parish where the Sheriff is an affiliate of the program.

The second scholarship is provided by the Richland Parish Sheriff’s Department.

“Academic awards by the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Scholarship Program to Louisiana students demonstrate what the LSHMP is all about,” Harrell said. “This is one of our finest accomplishments and allows us to be able to fund a second scholarship.  It invests in our students and gives something back to our community.  I thank those who join the LSHMP, because without the kind and generous support of Richland Parish’s Honorary Members this would not be possible.”

Sheriff Harrell also congratulated all of graduates of 2015.
