Social media helps solve vehicle theft

Mangham Police Chief Perry Fleming said his department’s use of social media has paid off with an arrest in a recent four-wheeler theft.Fleming said his department was contacted by a Mangham resident about a stolen four-wheeler on March 25.Fleming posted news of the theft on the Mangham Police Department’s Facebook page, warning citizens to be on the lookout for thieves.“I, Chief Perry Fleming, would like to take this time to make our community aware that we have had ATV’s stolen in this area. I want to advise everyone to be on the look out and take the proper precautions by taking your keys out of them and lock up your ATV’s,” Fleming posted on March 25.The next day, Fleming received a tip which led to the arrest of a 17-year-old Mangham resident on charges of s felony theft. The youth was booked into the Richland Parish Detention Center under $2,500 bond.“We put it out there on Facebook and it resulted in a tip,” Fleming said. “This is a case where the use of social media did pay off for us in an arrest.”The Mangham Police Department can be found online at http://www.facebook.com/Mangham.
