Outlook

Hello, hello, it’s that time again and here I am - ready to see what I can produce in the way of a readable column for this week’s Richland Beacon News.  I don’t really quite understand how the days go by so quickly and here another week has passed by.  Oh, well, I am just glad to be alive and well and able to enjoy the usual day to day living in our home-town.

I consulted a calendar to kind of orient myself as to the progress of this month of August and I see that this is the beginning of the last full week in this month.  And, if all goes well, I expect to write another column next Monday; but, it will not be printed until September 3rd.  So, that will make me feel that the fall season is really coming and that’s what I am looking forward to in the days ahead.

If memory serves me right, we usually start having cooler nights and a bit less heat during the day.  I am so tired of hearing the air conditioners humming so much; but, I am still mighty glad to have them available.  And, I believe our children are back in school for another session lasting until early summer.  Of course, they will be out for various holidays all through to next summer.  That’s quite a bit different to my years in school.  As I have said before, we got our for Thanksgiving and Christmas and that was about it.  Oh, yes - times have changed quite a bit - yes, they really have.

CHUCKLE #1 - The stout gentleman was trying to work his way past the other people toward his seat at the circus and he was having some difficulty.

“Excuse me, madam,” he said to one woman, “but did I step on your foot?”

The lady surveyed the circus area carefully and then said, “It’s quite possible that you did since the elephants all seem to still be out there.”

So, let’s proceed a little further in this week’s column and see what else I can dredge up to add interest to those taking time to read this effort.  My son, Kirby and his wife, Linda, have been enjoying company lately as Linda’s sister, Patty has been here visiting them from Minnesota.  I saw Patty at Woodlawn Baptist Church this past Sunday and spoke to her briefly; but, I don’t know who else may have made the trip down here with her. And, I don’t know how long Patty plans to visit this time.  But, I know Linda is really enjoying having this company here for a while.  All three of my brothers are deceased, so I am the only member of our family still living. My parents died many years ago; but, they lived to a “ripe” old age and had a very good life.  And, that is something else to be thankful for  -  oh, yes, indeed.......

I am giving a lot of thought to the remainder of this year which will really be the fall season for sure.  We have the Hendrix Annual Reunion coming up in September and I also have a reunion of my  high school class which is supposed to take place some-where up in Arkansas later on in the fall.  I will keep you posted on those events as they happen and if it works out so that I can attend them.

CHUCKLE #2 - A stranger, looking for a certain college, took the wrong turn and ended up at the insane asylum.  “Well,” he quipped as he left, “I suppose there isn’t much difference between the two institutions after all.”

“That’s what you think,” grunted the guard who had a son in college.  “In this place you have to show some improvement in order to get out.” ???

So, we journey on a bit further and think of the changing colors as the leaves turn gold and then brown before falling to the ground.  Then, they have to be raked up and bagged and disposed of.  Oh, yes, I know the routine and I can do it.  And, I plan to start on that right away and dispose of them as soon as I can.  I do hope that we will get some rain every now and then; but, the farmers may not need it or want it right now.  Anyway, I am glad that mortal men don’t have the power to control our weather.  That would be a real mess, wouldn’t it??     I will look forward to meeting you dear readers again next week in the same way, same time and place, etc.  Oh, yes, that is my “game plan.”  May we all continue to enjoy good health, peace and a serene happiness.  That will certainly please me quite well.  Oh, yes, indeed.......

I do have a few birthdays to list for this week and they are as follows: Tom Heath, Amy Williams and Linda Cobb on 8/29; Dr. Ray Cox and Jana Odom on 8/3O; Gordan Allen and Kelsie Miller on 8/31 and for Caleb Sharbono, Amber Tarver, Ann Morris and Beth Haynes on 9/2.  May all of these folks enjoy celebrating another birthday and give thanks for still being able to do so.  Oh, yes indeed......

And that will just about bring another Outlook effort to a close for one more week and I will hope and plan to meet all of you dear readers again next week in the same way, same time and place.  Oh, yes........

PARTING THOUGHT:  “I have this rule which I live by:  Only do what you can do.  That means you are never looking outside for what is popular; you are always looking inside for what is really true.” (Delia Ephron, screenwriter)
