Billy Ray Edge

Billy Ray “Bill” Edge passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 following complications from a stroke in March. 

A visitation was held Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe. Services were held on Friday, August 5, 2016 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 3706 Bon Aire Drive, Monroe with the Reverends Dawnell and Whit Stodghill officiating.

Burial followed the service at Northeast LA Veterans Cemetery in Rayville. 

Bill, a quiet man with deep feelings, was born December 11, 1941. After graduating from Holly Ridge High School, Bill enlisted in the United States Army. He spent some years in Japan followed by a second tour in England where he met June whom he called his rock and the love of his life. They celebrated their 50th anniversary on New Year’s Day.  

Bill taught mathematics and physics at Ridgedale Academy. He also worked 46 years until retirement as manager of the neighborhood’s Tidy Ties from the company’s inception through its change to Loving Care. 

Bill is survived by his wife June and his children, Tracy Foster and husband Solon; Nicole Walker and husband Todd; Jonathan Edge and Jason Edge-Lord and husband Tim. Grandchildren are Mallory, Brock, Hayden, Courtney and Andrew and one year old great-grandson Sawyer whom Bill met in April. 

Other survivors include John Edge, Paul and Judy Slayter, Sarah Brashears and Robert Johnson. 

Bill was preceded in death by his mother and step father, Virginia and Willie Slayter; his brother Bobby; and his brother-in-law Bruce Brashears. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Heart Association, The Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home, or to PAWS of Northeast Louisiana. 

Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3375 will serve as pallbearers.
