Hornets continue streak

The anticipated competition failed to materialize as the Hornets took a greater measure of the Ferriday Trojans on their own court than they did in Rayville 100-53.
Six Hornets scored in double figures led by Mylik Wilson’s 18 points. Samuel Sledge had 12; Rashad Naylor, Ja’Michael Wilson and Demontrel Wilson had 11 apiece and JaMarkus Wilson contributed 10.
Rayville built a 22-8 lead in the first quarter without the benefit of the three-point shot as they went 0-8 in the period. But soon after that the bombs started bursting in air as they wound up with 13 three-pointers.
Surprisingly enough, the competition came from Sterlington on their home court as they battled the Hornets to a 18-15 first quarter score. But soon superior strength and numbers increased a 12 point half-time lead to a 91-61 victory.
JaMarkus Wilson was high scorer for the Hornets with 24; Michael Williams II had 19 followed by Samuel Sledge’s 16. Nashaun Ellis with three threes in the third quarter had 11 and Ja’Michael Wilson finished with 10.
Except for the “weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth” it will soon be over for the district opponents of the Rayville Hornets. Mangham only stands in the way of an undefeated district championship season. They come into town Feb. 9. New Living Word of Ruston has opted out of the final game of the season and who can blame them.
Next week the opponent and date of the first playoff game to be in Rayville.
