Tensas PJ approves millage rates, meat market rental

At the regular meeting of the Tensas Parish Police Jury on September 8, Millage Rates for the tax year 2015 were approved.
These millage rates included the Council on Aging, Health Unit, library, court, and alimony.
Next on the agenda was the adoption of a resolution approving the holding of an election in Gravity District No. 1 of Tensas Parish, on Saturday November 21, to authorize the levy of a special tax therein.
Next, Ms. Sherry Eidt with Air Evac Life Team appeared before the jury to give an update as the parish enters the second year of their 3 year contract.
Eidt announced that the Air Evac service had been activated 21 times within the parish in the past year, making it a vital service for residents.
Ms. Eidt urged the jury to inform residents to register for the service, which is paid for by the parish, since many may not be aware of it, or may think they will incur a membership fee.
Approval was given to send a nuissance letter to the owner of a Lake Bruin (Brushy) property which has become tremendously overgrown. It was pointed out that such overgrowth can cause rodents and snakes to take up residence. The jury will send a letter to the owner in hopes that action will be taken to clean up the property.
The last item up for discussion was the approval of the rental of the meat market building on Highway 65, owned by the Police Jury, to Ronnie Hatton and sons. Approval was given for Mr. Hatton to rent the building for deer processing, making sausage which is sold locally in stores, and for other meats when deer season has ended. They also agreed to enclose the concrete slab at the rear of the building to shield the North wind when being used for deer skinning.
The Tensas Parish Police Jury holds its regular public meetings the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Police Jury Building in St Joseph.
