Trash pickup guidelines for flood victims

As the roads in the flooded areas begin to open and the garbage trucks can travel the roads safely, residential garbage pickup will resume on the regular pickup days.
However, If your home or business has been affected by the recent flood waters, the pickup for flood related debris will be handled differently. FEMA is contracting to fund the extra costs of debris pick-up but only under certain guidelines. The guidelines will be as follows:
1. Construction debris (any debris removed from flood-related damage to buildings or construction waste from new construction/repair) must be placed in a separate pile.
2. White goods (refrigerators, stoves, air conditioners or other appliances which might possibly contain freon) must be placed in a separate pile.
3. Hazardous Waste materials such as paints, batteries, oil etc. should be in a separate pile.
This separation is necessary due to the fact that outside Debris Removal and Debris Monitoring Companies will be working with parish and FEMA in the cleanup process. If these guidelines are not followed, the Independent contractors will be unable to pick up from your residence or business.
Only as it relates to debris generated as a result of construction due to flooding, the state will be contracting separately from the parish for pick up for all residences located on state roads.
