DCS robotics teams compete

Two Delhi Charter Junior Robotics Teams attended the first Saint Paul’s STRECH ONLY Introduction Tournament competition held Sept. 30 at St. Paul’s Catholic School in Covington.
All competing teams had to build a standard stretch robot using the build instructions provided by VEX IQ with no modifications or alterations. For many members, this was their first time constructing a robot.
DCS Termingators 1 (88892A), the all-girls team consisted of two veterans: 7th Graders: Lynda Carol Nielsen and Jenny Wright and two newcomers: Abbie Fuller and Courtney Marsh. Veteran 7th grader Miyonna Evers was unable to attend this event.
DCS Termingators 2 (88892B) consisted of all newcomers: 6th Graders: Cameron Fuller, Paxton Greer, Nathan Kirkland, and Mac York. Newcomers 6th Graders: Jordan Houston and Preston Rodriguez were unable to attend this event.
DCS Termingators 3 (88892C) consisting of veterans: 8th grader Kyle Peters, 7th graders: Dalton Branch and Ashton Harrell; along with newcomers: 6th graders: Greyson Harrell and Kaden Winstead were unable to attend this event.
There were nine teams competing, four from New Orleans, and three from Covington.
This was an introduction to VEX IQ robotics competition for the 2017-2018 season. This competition allow students meet other Louisiana competitors and officials to understand the game rules and practice in both qualifying rounds and final rounds.
Both DCS teams (girls and boys) made it to the final round. The boys’ team DCS Termingators 2 along with the New Orleans team Mahalia Jackson 3 won the final match with a final score of 32 points.
Both parents and students enjoyed themselves and learned a great deal about VEX IQ Robotics Competitions. All three DCS Junior Robotics Teams will travel to Madison, MS for MCTC’s VEX IQ Ringmaster Fall Tournament to be held on Oct. 28.
