RHS commencement held

Rayville High School held its commencement ceremony May 14 in the Rayville Arts Center.

The commencement program opened with the posting of the colors by the Rayville High School J.R.O.C.T, the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Cadet Kyle Cook.

The hundred and one graduates then marched down the aisle led by the Valedictorians Isis Harris and Alexis Biddy.

The invocation was given by Sarah Binkley.

Jaine Hable welcomed family and friends to a night that the graduates had all been waiting. Miss Hable stated, “I know this class is capable of doing so many wonderful things.”

Rachel Holmes presented the theme, “Limits” by Jorge Borges. This poem is about not limiting yourself. Miss Holmes wanted to remind the graduates to “Keep trust in God first, your true friends and family close, and to never give up on anything you truly want.”

Valedictorian Isis Harris wanted to thank her mother. “Thank you for pushing me mom; you will always be my motivation.” Miss Harris chose the line from the poem “of all the streets that blur into the sunset, there must be one (which I am not sure) that I by now have walked for the last time …” She went on to say that “Today is the end of our path as high school students; we have walked this street for the last time.”

Valedictorian Alexis Biddy chose the line “If there is a limit to all things and a measure…” She stated that “So many times we think, ‘I could not do that, or, I am not good enough to even attempt it.’ In this way we limit ourselves by the unknown in what could or could not have been.” Miss Biddy also said that it was time to move on and not to let the past limit the future.

Mackenzie Hendrix selected the line “There is a door you have closed forever…” Miss Hendrix told the audience “Don’t be misled that all of the gifts and talents are in the top ten of us you see here…Behind me you will find artists, athletes, singers, dancers, actors, mechanics, and future farmers. All of which have been perfecting their gifts and are already paving their road to success.”

“There is among all your memories one…” was the line chosen by Valedictorian Bailey Adams. She reminded the graduates to “Remember the laughs, smiles, and relationships we formed.” Miss Adams closed her speech with, “We can do anything we set our minds to and overcome any hindrance. It has been an honor being a part of Rayville High School’s class of 2015.”

Salutatorian Cody Skains proudly presented the class of 2015. Principal Tommy Watson and Associate Principal Larry Wright awarded the diplomas to the graduates.

The graduates and audience sang the Alma Mater led by Miss Kylie Pitman. In closing the Benediction was given by Miss Young followed by the recessional.
