Political signs, code violations and trash

To the Editor:

With the onset of this coming election,  there are political signs everywhere.  On  city streets, private property (with or without permission) and state and federal highways R.O.W which is strictly illegal but ignored by most candidates.

The worst violation I have seen is on the southwest corner of Glenda and S. Julia in Rayville in which not only are there a large number of signs on right of ways,  but they are also blocking access to the fire hydrant. NFPA, IBC and other codes clearly address clearances and obstructions and apparently the fire chief is not aware of these codes, choosing not to enforce these codes or just plain apathy in his job requirements.

Of course, apathy seems to run a muck in all city departments from the mayor on down. One example is how much trash has been allowed to accumulate in what was our clean, pretty town of Rayville. Come down Rescue street and see the blight.  One of the neighbors insisted on using the ditch as his dumping site.  The police department said it was the town’s issue.  (Illegal dumping?).  Mayor Lewis refuses to help. (Maybe he just can’t see through that illegal window tint he has on his car windows?).  You will also see part of a tree that had blown down across the street where the city backhoe operator broke up and left it in the ditch. Been there for months. Speaking of backhoe operator, I saw one trying to use the front bucket to rake leaves out the curb and gutter on Rhymes street.  In the process he broke out part of the concrete curb. Anyone in charge of these people?  Of Rayville?

Of course, the City of Rayville apparently does some good in trash control.  Recently I observed one city pickup with three men delivering one residential trash container!

Apathy: Merriam – Webster Dictionary - Lack of interest or concern: indifference.
