Outlook

Hello, hello, to all of you dear and special readers who are now scanning the Richland Beacon News to see what is offered on this week’s printed pages.  Since I haven’t been anywhere out of town or done anything different from my usual routine, I don’t know just what I can dredge up.

I have been kind of taking inventory around my home to see just what I still have on hand and whether there shouid be some disccarding of any items.  All of my clothing still fits me pretty well and that is good.  I would hate to have to go shopping and buy a new wardrobe.  As long as my clothing is clean and looks similar to what I see other ladies wearing, I will be satisfied with that.  I have never desired to be a “fashion plate” as I venture out every day; but, I do want to look o.k. in a nice way.

As most of you folks know, we are now into the fifth month of this new year of 2015 and I sort of regard May as a kind of “bridge” between winter and summer.  I keep on thinking that the weather will be getting warm enough for me to take the electric blanket off my  bed.  Then, here comes another bit of cooler weather and the blanket feels o.k. even if I don’t turn on the electric current.  So, I would imagine that June will bring on some hotter weather and that’s when I will get the cooler air circulating.  Oh, yes, I do like to be comfortable - warm in the winter and cooler in the summer-time.  Oh, yes.........

CHUCKLE #1 -  At a recent wedding reception of a friend, a neighbor’s husband was asked to make the farewell toast to the newlyweds.  When his 11-year old daughter heard this, she said to her mother, “Oh, dib’t let Daddy do that - he always burns the toast.”  ??!!!!!

So, I am still thinking about our early years here in this fair city of Rayville and it’s kind of hard to believe how many years have gone by,  But, they have been good years when I worked as a secretary in three different government offices here.  (We had a dry-cleaning business for ten of those years and I kept up with the financial part of that venture as to paying salaries of the employees and the ordering of certain supplies. In later years we owned and operated a retail store which featured second-hand items and some military clothing (mostly the Army work boots) and other odds and ends.  I can’t recall the exact year when I completed retired; but I am very thankful to be able to be at home most of the time these days.

As I have said before, I do enjoy watching TV except for one or two shows that I don’t really care much about.  And, I can always lose myself in reading a good book.  So, why should I fret and complain about everything in general?  What good would that do?   And, I also don’t want to become known as a “chronic complainer”.  No, no, I have known several people through the years who can find very little to enjoy as they go through life.  That’s not my style at all.  I just thank the good Lord for each day as it comes and I ask for patience, strength and fortitude to help me deal with whatever comes my way.  That plan has worked for many years for me, so why should I worry about changing to a different plan now??????

CHUCKLE #2 -   Once more the waiter returned to the table and inquired of the patron, “Let’s see, Sir, what was it that you wanted now?”

“Well, I originally came in for breakfast,” the man explained, “but, if lunch is about ready, I’ll just take supper.” ?

As we move on through the month of May, I have been trying to locate some distant relatives that I’ve not heard from recently.  And, would you believe that I received a telephone call from a distant cousin of mine just a week or so ago?  Reva and I are about the same age and we have not seen each other since we were still in       high school - she in Little Rock, Ark. where she has lived all of her life and I last saw her there many years ago when I had returned from a trip to Tennesee where my youngest brother and his wife were there while he was on Army maneuvers prior to going overseas in WWII.  So, Reva and I had quite a chat and I do hope that we will keep in touch one way or another from now on.

As most of you readers may suspect, I do like to fool around with calendars and I can spend a great deal of time in doing just that.  I still miss the old “Cardui” calendars which were populr many years ago.  I suppose they stopped making that product for women since I have not found it on drug store shelves in a long, long time.

Oh, well, that is the way that life seems to go in our older years.  I just get me a gadget that makes a wide mark and I go over the dates on the calendars and make them a bit larger and darker in black ink before I hang them up on a wall where they are in plain view.all the time.  (If one idea doesn’t work, I try another....Oh, yes I do, I do........)

And, folks are still having birthdays and I will list a few for your consideration.  They are as follows:  Allison Romero on 5/7; Ashley Hall on 5/8; Howard Vick and Bennie Robinson on 59; Julianne Paille on 5/10; Diann King and Roy Wiggins, Jr. on 5/11; Thomas Brown on 5/12 and for Amy Boone and Íarah E. Patrick on 5/13.  May all of these “birthday folks” enjoy a mosty happy celebration of their natal day and we wish them many, many more in the years to come.  Oh, yes indeed........

So, that will just about bring another Outlook effort to a close and I will hope to meet all of you dear readers again next week - same way, time, place, etc..... Oh, yes.......

PARTING THOUGHT:  Promise yourself to speak of health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet as you go through life.  Oh, yes, indeed.  I try to do that rather often.....
