Jump Start summer camp program set

The Northeast Louisiana Delta Jump Start Regional Team is hosting a Jump Start to Your Future Mini Summer Camp on June 9-11.

The purpose of the camp is to introduce 9th and 10th grade high school students to Career and Technical opportunities that are available in Northeast Louisiana.

The activities will include a field trip to Louisiana Delta Community College in Tallulah to observe the allied health departments, diesel mechanic shop and welding facility, a field trip to ConAgra in Dunn to better understand manufacturing, and a day with the Richland Parish Sheriff’s Department, Fire Department and Emergency Medical Responders to investigate Public Service opportunities.

Job opportunities in banking will be explored as part of the Business Pathway.

The Mobile Oil Learning Unit from Texas will be at Rayville High School on Wednesday, June 10.  Citizens are invited to tour the MOLU from 4 until 6 pm. The MOLU will provide students with an in depth understanding of how the oil and gas industry works from drilling exploratory wells through refining and marketing.

The virtual welding trailer from Louisianan Delta Community College in West Monroe will be on site to enable the students to “practice” their welding skills.

The camp is open to all Northeast Delta Regional Jump Start schools and will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.
