Gator Apprehended in Oak Grove

OAK GROVE, La. --- The Oak Grove Police Department’s Mike Henderson responded to a rare call Saturday afternoon at 511 McIntyre Street in Oak Grove when residents reported an Alligator under their carport.

“I can’t tell you the last time or if I have ever gotten a call like this.” Patrolman Mike Henderson said. “I responded to the call and there it was, right under the residence carport about 4.5 feet long.”

Henderson called in assistance from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries who relocated the reptile.

“Alligators are rarely seen in Northeast Louisiana,” Henderson said. “What makes this even stranger is the fact that we have not received significant rainfall in Oak Grove since mid-July. This Aligator is bound to have been traveling from its regular habitat in search of water, we do not have any reason to think that this will become a regular occurrence.”
