Rayville officers make arrests

Rayville Police Chief Willie Robinson said his officers have made a number of arrests this week.

Officer Latoya Gray responded to a hit and run call at Riverfield Academy on Sept. 10. As she was observing the parking lot, she spotted a vehicle which fit the description pulling back into the parking lot.

She then made contact with the driver, Sara Salvage, 33, of 406 S. Lincoln St., Tallulah.

Salvage was then charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

The day before Officer Jesse Morris conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with no break lights and no license plate light.

Officer Morris smelled a strong odor coming from the vehicle. Morris then dispatched K-9 officer Chowns to assist with a search on the vehicle. The two officers then discovered marijuana leaves and a glass pipe inside the vehicle. The driver, Christopher Warren, 50, of 111 Waldorf St., Rayville was then arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Later, Morris was in route to an alarm call on Sept. 14 when he passed a male subject on a bicycle in the area.

Morris stopped the subject and made contact with him. Morris said that when the suspect began acting nervous, he discovered he was carrying a gun.

The suspect, Deterrius Jackson, was then charged with possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

In another incident on Sept. 12, Officer Shannon Mosely noticed from Hwy 425 a vehicle veering off the road on the I-20 West bound in Rayville.

Mosely stopped the driver and ran his information at which time she learned the driver had a suspended license.

At this time, she obtained consent to search the vehicle, discovering a crack pipe which contained marijuana residue on the car’s console.

The driver, James Williamson, 34, of 242 Percy Heggins Road, Rayville, was charged with driving under suspension, careless operation and possession of drug paraphernalia.
