Boeuf River NDSAR meets at library

Bouef River Chapter, NSDAR, met Monday, April 20, 2015, in the Richland Parish Library.

Hostesses were Carolyn Patterson and Kelly Patterson. Delicious refreshments were served to members and guests in the social period.

Regent Angela Hales called the meeting to order and led the DAR ritual. Kelly read the President General’s message.

Several guests were present. Good Citizen essay winner Caroline Nicole Ragus and Mrs. Marie Miller were with us. Nicole was winner of Northeast Division -- second place over all -- in this contest. Nicole plants to attend ULM and pursue a future in the medical field. Honors and activities were mentioned and she read her essay. We are always proud of our young people in this area.

Another guest was speaker Betsy Moreland of Homer. Mrs. Moreland is past vice president general and honorary state regent of LSDAR. She presented a video which was very interesting. This video tells how all ages are participating in DAR projects.

Serving at the veteran hospitals and medical centers showing support to these and the retired; maintaining schools like Kate Duncan in Alabama and Tennessee; preserving historic landmarks around the country and promoting conservation projects -- these are some of the concerns of DAR. Members are a group who value the past and serve the future.

In October, DAR will celebrate its 125th anniversary. It was started by four ladies, Mary Desha, Mary Smith Lockwood, Ellen Hardin Walsworth and Eugenia Washington (great niece of George Washington). Daughter of the American Revolution is the only organization that owns an entire block in Washington, D.C.

A business session was held.

Minutes of the March meeting were read.

The treasurer’s report was given.

With no other business, the meeting was adjourned.

Charlotte Sims is secretary of the Boeuf River Chapter, NSDAR.
